Laser Dentistry

For many treatments of the gums and soft tissues, a dental laser can replace the scalpel, with less bleeding and faster healing.

A dental laser delivers a precise beam of light energy that can remove or reshape soft tissue, seal small blood vessels as it works, and reduce bacteria in the treated area.

What we use it for

  • Gum disease, to remove infected tissue and reduce bacteria as part of Periodontal Treatment.
  • Recurring mouth ulcers, to relieve pain and help them heal.
  • Gum pigmentation, to lighten dark patches on the gums.
  • Pericoronitis, removing the inflamed gum flap over a partly erupted tooth, often a wisdom tooth.
  • Implant exposure, uncovering a healed implant before its crown is attached.

The benefits

  • Less bleeding, and often no stitches.
  • Less swelling and faster healing for many procedures.
  • Less scarring and a better cosmetic result.
  • Shorter, more comfortable procedures, which many anxious patients appreciate.

Common questions

Does laser treatment hurt?

Many soft-tissue laser procedures need little or no anesthesia, and most patients find them more comfortable than conventional surgery. We make sure you are comfortable before we begin.

Is laser dentistry safe?

Yes. Dental lasers have been used for decades and are safe in trained hands. You wear protective glasses during treatment.

Can a laser be used for every treatment?

No. Lasers are best for certain soft-tissue procedures. We’ll recommend laser treatment when it offers a real benefit for you.
