Preventive Dental Care

Regular checkups and cleanings keep your teeth and gums healthy, and find small problems before they become big ones.

Most dental problems don’t hurt at first. Early cavities, gum disease and many other conditions develop quietly, which is why routine visits are the foundation of good dental health.

What a preventive visit includes

  • A thorough exam of your teeth, gums, bite and existing fillings or crowns.
  • An oral cancer screening, checking your tongue, cheeks, lips, palate and throat for anything unusual.
  • A professional cleaning to remove plaque and hardened tartar that brushing and flossing can’t reach.
  • Digital X-rays when needed, to see between teeth and below the gumline.
  • Personal advice on brushing, flossing, diet and habits that affect your teeth.

Extra protection when you need it

If you are prone to cavities, we may recommend fluoride treatments to strengthen enamel, or sealants to protect the deep grooves of the back teeth. Both are quick and painless, and suitable for children and adults.

Care for the whole family

We see patients of all ages, and families can book checkups back-to-back so everyone is seen in one trip.

Common questions

How often should I come in for a checkup?

Many people do well with a checkup and cleaning twice a year. If you have gum disease, diabetes or a history of frequent cavities, we may suggest more frequent visits.

Do I need X-rays at every visit?

No. We take digital X-rays only when they are needed, based on your history and risk, and digital X-rays use much less radiation than traditional film.

Does insurance cover preventive care?

Most dental plans cover checkups and cleanings at a high percentage, often in full. Call us with your plan details and we can help you check.
