Teeth Whitening

Professional whitening, in the office or at home with custom trays, safely brightens your smile by several shades.

Coffee, tea, red wine, tobacco and time all dull the color of teeth. Professional whitening breaks down these stains safely and gives far more reliable results than store-bought strips.

Two ways to whiten

  • In the office. A professional-strength whitening gel is applied under supervision, with your gums protected, for a noticeable change in a single visit.
  • At home with custom trays. We make trays from impressions of your teeth, so the gel stays on your teeth and away from your gums. You whiten at your own pace, and you can keep the trays for touch-ups.

Many patients combine both: an in-office treatment, then trays to maintain the result.

What whitening can and can’t change

Whitening works best on yellowish stains from food, drink, tobacco and age. Gray or brown discoloration from medications or injury responds less predictably. For stains that don’t respond, bonding or porcelain veneers may be a better option.

Keeping your results

Rinse with water after coffee, tea or red wine, use a straw for dark drinks, avoid tobacco, and keep up with regular cleanings. An occasional touch-up with your trays keeps your smile bright.

Common questions

Is professional whitening safe?

Yes, for most adults. We check your teeth and gums first, and whitening gels don’t damage healthy enamel when used as directed. Whitening is usually postponed during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Will whitening make my teeth sensitive?

Some people have temporary sensitivity, which usually fades within a few days. Tell us if your teeth are already sensitive and we’ll adjust the treatment.

Does whitening work on crowns or veneers?

No. Whitening only changes natural teeth. If you have visible crowns, veneers or bonding, we’ll plan treatment so everything matches.
